  • Provides HIV/AIDS/STD prevention services, testing and counseling, and behavioral interventions

  • Helps to identifies specific setting or venues in which high-risk members of the target population can be accessed.

  • Coordinates outreach activities and special community events related to the program under the direction of the Lead Testing Specialist or Program Manager.

  • Ensures that all necessary reports and documentation are collected and submitted to the appropriate entities in a timely and efficient manner as defined by agency policies

  • Attends trainings, conferences, and meetings, as requested by program manager and department director

  • Performs HIV and STD testing without adverse events: ensures all laboratory forms are correctly completely and accurate results and provided to all patients Ensures quality standards for testing and counseling are maintained through completion of appropriate documentation and complies with all CQI/CLIA standards.

  • Assists clients with scheduling follow-up appointments with medical providers and make referrals to programs as appropriate


This position does not have supervisory responsibilities


  • Enrolled in accredited university with 3.0 GPA minimum

  • Knowledge of HIV/STD infection and AIDS

  • Knowledge of various priority populations and sensitivity to their norms, values, and cultural beliefs

  • Must have own reliable transportation

  • Must have be working on educational degree in public health field


  • Work experience in HIV prevention presentation, Testing & Counseling

  • Certification in the Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling and/or HIV Testing and Counseling

  • Bachelor’s degree of higher in public health, health education or a related social services field


  • Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel and Word; Proficiency with Internet

  • Knowledge of universal precautions in dealing with infection control of blood borne pathogens

  • Basic knowledge of harm reduction principles and approach in providing services

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively educate and communicate with a variety of audiences

  • Experience with charting, documentation, utilization of client record databases

  • Ability to travel and work nights and weekends as required

  • Competence to work independently and within a team

  • Capacity to deliver programs in a variety of locations (i.e. faith-based facilities, community centers, clubs, bars, bath houses or similar venues, prisons, parks, etc.) and may have to transport, lift, and carry equipment and supplies

  • Have a positive attitude while working with challenging individuals, groups, and institutions

  • Previous experience with project and event coordination, ability to provide presentation set-up that may have to bend, transport, lift, and carry equipment and supplies of approximately 10 lbs.
