Job Description Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Monitors and operates patient care equipment safely. Maintains clean and healthy environment. Performs designated technical skills and procedures. Assists in the use of anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings. Appropriately discards disposable suction supplies. Assists in patient care using bedside blood glucose machine, bag-valve-mask device, oxygen, suction equipment and incentive spirometer. Operates converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretcher, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeter, and computer. Demonstrates specific areas of skill competency by completion of skills checklist within four weeks of employment. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Ensures that prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided. Complies with Universal Precaution guidelines including sterile techniques and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment. Serves as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing, hospital and university policies and procedures. Supports cost efficient/effective delivery of care. Participates in unit-based and systemwide Performance Improvement Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited nursing degree program awaiting results of NCLEX-RN exam and state licensure. BLS and Healthcare Provider certifications required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
