JOB OVERVIEW:

The Patient Safety Coordinator reports to the Manager of Quality & Patient Safety and is primarily responsible for coordinating Patient Safety and Performance Improvement processes related to Evidence-based (Best) Practice, Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s) and Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HAC’s) for WellStar Cobb Hospital. This includes but is not limited to analyzing and reporting Value-Based Purchasing and Meaningful Use metrics reported by system Clinical Informatics/Decision Support and system Safety & Quality. Additionally, reviews, reports and investigates quality and patient safety issues identified by incident reports or other reporting mechanisms, as assigned. The Patient Safety Coordinator provides feedback to hospital leaders and team members, assisting them in identifying and implementing corrections in areas of improvement. Serves as a hospital resource on quality and patient safety teams and committees. Assists members in the development of their patient safety evaluation systems. Develops and presents reports, educational, and resource materials. Identifies industry best practices and shares those with hospital leaders and teams. Assists with quality and patient safety program development. Coordinates & facilitates assigned teams. Performs all assignments in a professional, accurate and timely manner.

Required Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Master’s Degree preferred) with current Georgia Registered Nurse license; OR Graduate of an accredited college or university in Healthcare-related field (Master’s Degree and/or clinical practice preferred).

Required Minimum Experience: Four years’ experience in the following areas: Sepsis, Clinical and/or hospital/healthcare setting, Quality Management and/or Performance Improvement with knowledge of the complexity of hospital or healthcare processes and in working within such settings. Experience in medical chart review, and event investigation. Familiarity with tools and techniques of performance improvement/quality management and project management.

Required Minimum Skills: Strong computer skills required; MS Office (Work, Excel, Power Point). Data analysis & quality experience; knowledge in lean, six sigma or other process improvement techniques preferred Excellent ability to effectively manage projects and initiatives and to provide anticipated outcomes Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and bring together diverse groups together in a collaborative and effective manner Ability to work independently as well as part of a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to develop and present reports and educational materials

Preferred Certifications: Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Patient Safety Professional, Lean/Six Sigma or other relevant certification
