JOB SUMMARY: a brief description of the job.

The Infection Preventionist I (entry level) is a professional who functions under the direction of the Safety and Quality Services Director or equivalent (facility specific) and is responsible for supporting cost-effective infection prevention initiatives at assigned healthcare setting. Responsibilities include: surveillance activities to decrease healthcare associated infections and improve patient outcomes; managing time efficiently including meeting system deadlines for monthly data submission, NHSN data submission, etc., participation in policy and procedure development/implementation in conjunction with other Wellstar facilities and System; product/procedure/practice evaluation as it relates to infection prevention; education and information sharing; performance improvement; identification and investigation of infection clusters or outbreaks; reporting of communicable diseases as required; assists with implementing changes mandated by regulatory and licensing agencies; Routinely audits clinical areas for compliance with Infection Prevention best practices.

The Infection Preventionist I supports the delivery of safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age appropriateness and culturally aware needs of patient populations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements to be considered qualified to do the job.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelors degree in nursing(BSN) or medical technology, or other relevent Bachelors degree: current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Georgia or national accreditation as a medical technologist preferred. Certification by Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) preferred.

Required Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years experience hospital-based infection prevention practice preferred. Three to five years clinical practice in an acute care setting preferred. .

Required Minimum Skills:

Ability to read, write and speak the English language; Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of infection prevention and epidemiology, surveillance, data collection and analysis; Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control guidelines, OSHA, and regulatory and CDC requirements is essential; Delegation skills required; Ability to multi-task essential; Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations essential; Strong detail orientation required; computer skills required; Personal time management skills are required. Registered Nurse - Compliance with the American Nurses Association code of Ethics for Professional Nurses is required; demonstrates knowledge of and practices within parameters outlined in Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act. Medication Technologist Must meet the personnel qualifications under the regulations of licensure for clinical laboratories of the State of Georgia.
