DeKalb Medical Manager Infection Prevention in Decatur, Georgia

Job Summary:

The Infection Prevention Manager directs and coordinates the implementation and execution of an active surveillance program for identifying, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI) and reportable diseases/conditions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide day to day management and supervision of Infection Preventionists and Data Analyst.

  • Oversees the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection prevention and control standards that meet The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other local, state and federal agencies’ recommendations and requirements

  • Oversees the Infection Prevention component of the Clinical Leadership Model and Tactical Teams, focusing on improving Key Performance Indicators established by Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors

  • Directs internal reporting related to the Clinical Leadership Model and key department-specific scorecards presenting information to Leadership and other stakeholders throughout the organization; identify, define, and design solutions to address opportunities based on benchmarking, goal comparison, data analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Acts as a resource to staff and other departments regarding all aspects of organization infection prevention as related to clinical key performance indicators (CAUTI, CLABSI, VAE, SSI, etc.)

  • Manages the adherence to regulatory standards for hospital quality reporting in collaboration with the manager(s) of Patient Safety and Quality

  • Analyzes and presents to leadership preview reports of publicly reported measures

  • Collaborates with senior leadership to establish organizational quality goals

  • Establishes, implements and administers departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures

to support the organizations strategic goals

  • Assists the Executive Director of the DeKalb Quality Institutet with hiring and training of staff and managing daily department operations

  • Collaborates with Quality, Patient Safety and Accreditation in promoting department initiatives such as meeting productivity standards, quality improvement, customer service excellence, performance improvement, etc.

  • Supports the management team and department staff in achieving specified goals and outcomes within designated time periods; represents the department in various organizational initiatives and committees, as assigned

  • Develop, organize, collect, prepare and present results of quality management/infection prevention review activities to achieve the objective of monitoring, evaluating and continuously improving the quality of healthcare services provided to the patients served at DRHS.

  • Assure compliance with external infection prevention reporting activities.

  • Ensure implementation of recommendations for infection control and prevention made by Infection Prevention and Management Committee, Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, etc.

  • Facilitate teams and coordinate projects.

  • Collect data, design formats for data collection, interpret documents, and display data in an appropriate format (graphical, statistical and/or written summary) to support the delivery of high quality patient care.

  • Perform as a resource to staff and other departments regarding all aspects of infection prevention and select aspects of quality and patient safety performance.

  • Manage staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, conflict management, and other job related issues. Oversee scheduling, recruitment, and payroll.

  • Assist the Executive Director with recruitment, training and ongoing education of staff.

  • Assist the Executive Director in daily management of the Infection Prevention section of the DQI, such as workload, assignments, committee representation, data analysis, reports, and presentation preparation.

  • Collaborate with other DQI staff and departments concerning data collection, chart abstraction, data analysis, and required external reporting.

  • Coach Infection Prevention staff in organizational performance improvement initiatives in collaboration with other departments, using recognized performance improvement methodology e.g. PDCA and Lean Six Sigma

  • Assist the Executive Director with strategic planning, physician relations, regulatory compliance,

data analysis and staff performance.

  • Operate as a mentor to DQI department staff.

  • Function as a positive change agent in advancing the strategic objectives and performance improvement initiatives of the organization.

  • Participate in professional organizations and develop relationships with other Infection Prevention professionals for purposes of networking, benchmarking, and professional leadership.

  • Participate in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and adhere to DeKalb Medical Standards of Behavior.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical.

Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:

  • Requires a current RN license with BSN preferred

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related healthcare field is preferred

  • Knowledge of applicable TJC, OSHA, CDC, CMS, and other county, state, and federal regulatory agencies standards/regulations

  • Certification in Certification in Infection Control (CIC), or acquired within 1 year

  • Must have a minimum of five years clinical experience in a hospital setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting

  • Computer skills, research and basic statistical knowledge is preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma training/certification is preferred
